Brendan Monroe's artistic path began at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, leading him to the Bay Area and ultimately to Los Angeles. As a sculptor and painter, he investigates themes of motion and abstract forms through a striking black-and-white aesthetic that invites viewers to reconsider their perceptions. This tension between flatness and three-dimensionality gives his work a unique vibrancy and presence.
A sculptor and painter, his work consists of explorations of his ideas and dreams, translated into images of a familiar but unseen world. It's this dual quality and the tension between the reality and a surrealist reality that gives them their power and allure.
Monroe’s bold black-and-white compositions evoke the fluidity of waves and other natural movements, capturing the essence of dynamic motion in our world. The sharp contrasts not only attract the eye but also invite exploration of the rhythm and energy of nature, turning static images into lively expressions of continuous flow.
Tumble Rumble is a mural that embodies the themes of flow and change. The surface, rendered in dynamic white stripes, cascades and breaks revealing a strong mass of shapes. This interplay between light and dark not only emphasizes the movement but also invites viewers to reflect on the transformative nature of life.
His monumental-sized murals can be seen in prominent buildings across cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, San Jose, Portland, Toulouse, and Boston, reflecting his expansive influence in the contemporary mural art scene.
