Pat Sherwood is a figurative painter known for portraying animals, human portraiture, and landscapes. Her style is dynamic, bringing subjects to life in surreal colors, textured layers, and distinct brushstrokes. Her unique lens invites viewers to engage with ordinary subjects in an unusual, novel way. Sherwood interprets the natural and imagined world with abstraction. Her works are infused with an emotional internalized sense of wonder.
 
Sherwood’s work has been widely collected and included in private and corporate collections, including those of the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, Bank of America in San Francisco, Stanford University, and the Cantor Center for the Visual Arts at Stanford University. They have also been displayed at the San Jose Museum, the Euphrat Museum, the Triton Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art in San Jose, the Pratt Institute, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, and the Columbia Museum of South Carolina.
 
In 1995 the city on San Jose purchased and gave two of her paintings to sister cities in Ireland.
 
Her work has been published in scientific journals including Human Molecular Genetics, Mammalian Genome, and Journal of Experimental Zoology. In 1995 Pat Sherwood received a National Endowment for the Arts award.
