Cardinal Clean
Academy Hall will be the first building at Stanford Redwood City to pilot the powerful and green cleaning solution, Cardinal Clean. The product has been in use since 2015 on the main campus to clean and sanitize residence and dining halls. If its implementation is successful and campus feedback is positive, SRWC Operations will roll out Cardinal Clean to the entire campus in the coming year.
What is it?
Cardinal Clean is Stanford’s free, powerful & green cleaning standard. The Cardinal Clean machine electrifies tap water and oxygen to produce a completely sustainable, safe and effective multi-purpose disinfectant.
- Kills 99.99% of germs, virus, and bacteria for 24 hours after dispensing
- Turns to regular water after seven days
- Reduces plastic pollution, hazardous waste disposal, and chemicals into the water system
- Non-toxic and non-irritant for your health
How do you use it?
At first the Cardinal Clean solution will be available to custodial staff to wipe floors and put in spray bottles. SRWC Operations will also place spray bottles for general use around water points and plazas. It can safely be used on glass, countertops, floors/carpets, sinks, furniture and high-touch points like your cell phone, light switches and door handles.
Benefits
The Cardinal Clean solution quickly kills odors, stains, viruses and bacteria. It’s stronger than bleach and kills up to 99.999% of germs without exposing you to toxins, carcinogens or chemical residue.
How does it work?
Cardinal Clean uses ozone, a potent disinfectant that naturally occurs in our environment. The machine intakes oxygen and tap water then applies 4500V of electricity, allowing two-atom oxygen gas to rearrange into three-atom ozone gas to produce the ozone. Because of ozone’s unique structure, it disinfects molecules using radical oxidation instead of traditional oxidation used by chlorine bleach.
