Tauba Auerbach
Printmaking
2012

Academy Hall, Second Floor

Born in San Francisco, Tauba Auerbach is a contemporary artist who works in a variety of media including painting, printmaking, glass sculptures, photography, installation, book design, and musical performance. Inspired by math and physics, her work challenges structures and systems of logic and she is known for utilizing visual manipulation techniques, such as trompe l’oeil, to fascinate and engage the viewer.

After experimenting with running non- traditional art making materials through a printing press, the artist Tauba Auerbach developed an idea to ink up plastic meshes and run them through the press directly on to paper. Through a collaborative process with her master printmaker, a method of creating softground etching plates was developed in order to support the artist’s vision of mesh prints. Experimentation, innovation and new ideas are found thought out this artists’ body of work, including these mesmerizing prints.

Auerbach graduated with a BA in Visual Art from Stanford University in 2003. She has been exhibited in group shows at major institutions such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Modern Art, New York, MoMA PS1, Queens, New York, and The Broad, Los Angeles, CA. Her work has been collected by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the San Francisco Museum of Art. She currently works and resides in New York City.
