Wendy Robushi is a San Francisco-based artist who is known for her contemporary interpretations of mandalas, though she has also worked with clay, wax, paint, and sculpture. Using cut paper pieces with words, symbols, and hand-painted shapes and colors, her labor intensive mandalas are simple and dynamic. Each 3D piece has layers, depth, and texture, and evolves as the viewer changes their perspective. Historically and culturally, mandalas represent stability, rebalancing, and a symbol for meditation, and Robushi says, “I leave it to the viewer to find their own meaning in the Mandalas,” inviting the viewer on a meditative, exploratory visual experience. 
 
Robushi received her MFA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley in 1989. Her work has been collected by national and international public and private collections and presented at many solo and group exhibitions across California. She has been represented by contemporary galleries and has been an artist-in-residence at San Francisco public schools.
