On Thursday, October 19 at 10:19 am, the Stanford Redwood City campus will conduct its annual test of the AlertSRWC and warning system, as part of the Great California ShakeOut earthquake simulation/drill 'ShakeOut…Don’t freak out.' In an earthquake, you may only have seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you. Join us on October19 as we practice earthquake-safe actions with millions of colleagues across the globe. Why? Because when the adrenaline kicks in, you may not act safely if you haven’t practiced the Drop, Cover, Hold On drill before that moment. Don’t wait until the shaking starts to practice earthquake safety with your community. Register for Emergency Alerts. Remember to update your contact information in StanfordWho (Stanford Directory) before October 19. For more information on updating your contact information, go here.
Additionally, FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a national test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) on October 4. It will reach millions of mobile phones across the country via Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), radio and television via the Emergency Alert System (EAS), and other communication pathways.
The test will take place at 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
